Hubli

The North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation is working to improve urban transport services in several cities. State-of-the-art city buses have been introduced in Hubli-Dharwad and Belagavi, with 10 buses already in service.

Previously, there was a shortage of buses following the Shakti Yojana, but the North-West Transport Corporation has addressed this issue by purchasing new buses with government assistance and a loan. A total of 100 new buses have been bought to focus on urban transport, with all necessary processes, including tenders, completed.

Currently, seven of the new buses are operating between Hubli and Dharwad, with four assigned to Hubli and three to Dharwad. These buses are being tested over a one-month period to assess their performance on the roads of the twin cities, including their mileage and efficiency. The buses are zero-emission, using BS-6 model vehicles, and this is their first use in urban transport.

The trial includes running the buses on main city roads, suburban areas, and high-traffic zones. A report will be prepared based on these tests. Following the trial, a phased addition of buses will occur. Of the 100 buses, 40 will be allocated to Hubli, 30 to Dharwad, and 30 to Belagavi.
