The flood situation in North Bihar has deteriorated due to ongoing heavy rainfall over the past few days. The Ganga River and its tributaries are now above danger levels at multiple points, largely due to significant rainfall in the catchment areas of Nepal, causing river levels in Bihar to rise rapidly.

Since September 26, heavy rains have impacted many river catchment areas in Bihar, with forecasts indicating that rain will persist in the coming days. The government has issued alerts for all 38 districts in the state, anticipating varying intensities of rainfall. Districts like West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Supaul, and others have recorded substantial rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 205 mm.

The Meteorological Department has warned that conditions may worsen, raising fears of severe flooding and potential chaos across the state. In response, the Water Resource Department is taking proactive measures to manage the crisis. On Friday, 600,000 cusecs of water were released from the Valmikinagar Gandak Barrage, with additional releases expected from the Kosi Barrage.

Officials have been instructed to remain vigilant and monitor flood conditions closely. Emergency measures include deploying flood control equipment and cancelling leaves for staff to ensure continuous oversight of vulnerable areas. The aim is to minimize the impact of the floods on both infrastructure and local communities.
