Following the wall collapse in Ujjain that claimed two lives, family members of the victims protested on Saturday by laying the bodies on the road, demanding ₹50 lakh in compensation. They accused the district administration of negligence, arguing that the renovation of Maharajwada School should have been completed before or after the rainy season, as the building had been in a deteriorating state for years.

A video circulating on social media showed the grieving relatives and local residents blocking traffic with the victims’ bodies. In response to the accident, CM Mohan Yadav announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹4 lakh for each deceased victim’s family and ₹50,000 for those injured in the incident.

The collapse occurred near the famous Mahakal Temple after heavy rains caused part of the boundary wall of the Maharajwada School to give way. Emergency responders acted quickly, transporting the victims to the district hospital. Unfortunately, two individuals, identified as Farheen (22) and Ajay Yogi (27), died from their injuries, while two others were transferred to Indore for advanced treatment.

The Maharajwada School, situated near gate number four of the Mahakal Lok Corridor, was undergoing renovations to enhance its appearance due to its proximity to this significant religious site. The first phase of the Mahakal Lok Corridor was inaugurated by PM Modi on October 11, 2022.
