The death of ‘Friends’ actor Matthew Perry is currently being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) over six months after he was found unresponsive at his home in October 2023. Authorities have attributed his death to acute ketamine effects.
Perry, who was 54, died on October 28, 2023. He was found unconscious in his hot tub when authorities arrived at his Los Angeles home at 4 pm although first responders were called for cardiac arrest, the toxicology report later revealed that Perry died from the acute effects of ketamine.
Investigators are now looking into where Perry obtained the ketamine and how it reached such high levels in his system. Prior to his overdose, Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety. The toxicology report noted that the high levels of ketamine found in his blood could cause both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression.
Perry’s death shocked many, including his ‘Friends’ co-stars. Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller alongside Perry’s Chandler Bing, shared on ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ that she still feels Perry’s presence. Cox described Perry as one of the funniest human beings in the world and a person with a huge heart who struggled. She expressed gratitude for the years they worked together and believes he still guides her, feeling his presence around her.
