A day after the Tamil Nadu government announced the renaming of Kamdar Nagar Main Road in Chennai to SP Balasubrahmanyam Road in honor of the late legendary singer, his son SP Charan expressed gratitude on social media.

In a heartfelt post on his X handle, SP Charan thanked the Tamil Nadu government, Chief Minister MK Stalin, and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for this tribute, emphasizing that it resonates with fans of ‘Paadum Nila.’ The road holds special significance as it leads to the late singer’s residence.

Chief Minister MK Stalin noted that this decision commemorates SP Balasubrahmanyam’s immense contribution to Indian music, having sung over 40,000 songs across various languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam. He also reflected on SPB’s cherished friendship with former CM M Karunanidhi, highlighting the deep connection between the late singer and the DMK leader.

SP Balasubrahmanyam, a recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, passed away on September 25, 2020, due to health complications, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of music.
