The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) unveiled its manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Party leaders including Sitatam Yechury, Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, and Nilotpal Basu made commitments for their potential governance.
Yechury emphasized their dedication to revoking the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and advocated for the separation of religion from politics and administration. They promised to enact laws against hate speech and crimes.
The CPI(M) manifesto stressed the restoration of states’ constitutional rights diluted by the Modi government. They advocated for devolving 50% of Central taxes to states and proposed selecting Governors from panels nominated by CMs to counter centralization policies.
Additionally, the manifesto pledged to repeal oppressive laws like the UAPA and PMLA, protect independent institutions’ autonomy, and defend democratic rights. The CPI(M) vowed to support Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomy under Article 370, call for prompt elections and restoration of full statehood.
Furthermore, the manifesto advocated for reservations in the private sector, filling reserved vacancies promptly, protecting adivasi rights, conducting a caste census, implementing one-third reservations for women, and ensuring justice for female crime victims.
Lastly, the CPI(M) proposed urgent electoral reforms, including state funding of elections and banning corporate donations to political parties to reduce the influence of monetary resources in the electoral process.
