Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday criticized Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over his comments about Rahul Gandhi, urging him to think before speaking. In a post on X, Ramesh accused Fadnavis of desperation, referring to his claim that Rahul Gandhi showed a red book to gain support from urban naxals. Ramesh clarified that the red book in question is the Constitution of India, crafted by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, which Fadnavis and the RSS had previously criticized. He also pointed out that the Constitution’s foreword was written by K.K. Venugopal, former Attorney General of India.
Ramesh further noted that the term urban naxals is not officially used by the Union Home Ministry, contradicting Fadnavis’s accusations. Fadnavis had earlier criticized Rahul Gandhi for using the Constitution in a political event, accusing him of disloyalty to it. During a recent visit to Nagpur, Rahul Gandhi carried the Constitution at an event where he supported a caste census. The Maharashtra elections are set for November 20, with results expected on November 23.
