New Delhi
The iconic Eden Gardens stadium will soon have a stand named in honor of Indian cricket legend Jhulan Goswami. The Block B gallery of the stadium will be renamed after Goswami, with the inauguration scheduled for Jan 22, 2025, during India Women’s team’s first T20I against England.
Goswami, one of the finest fast bowlers in women’s cricket, retired two years ago after a remarkable 20-year career. She holds the record for the most wickets in women’s ODIs with 255 wickets. Over her career, Goswami played 12 Tests, 204 ODIs, and 68 T20Is, taking 355 wickets across all formats.
In Test cricket, she claimed 44 wickets, with an average of 17.36, while in T20Is, she took 56 wickets at an average of 21.94. Her ODI tally of 255 wickets came at an average of 22.04.
Post-retirement, Goswami has continued to contribute to the game as a mentor and coach, working with teams like the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League. She also mentors Bengal’s senior women’s team.
Goswami’s stand will join others at Eden Gardens named after cricket greats such as Sourav Ganguly, Pankaj Roy, Jagmohan Dalmiya, and Biswanath Dutt.
