Kochi
A thrilling southern rivalry is set to resume as Kerala Blasters FC host Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi today (Sunday).
Both teams have played eight matches so far. Chennaiyin FC are in fourth place with three wins, while Kerala Blasters FC are in 10th with two wins and two draws. Despite the gap, both teams are keen to secure a strong start after the international break to avoid losing ground.
Chennaiyin FC have scored 16 goals, their highest tally after eight games in any season. Their goal difference of +4 is second only to their 2017-18 record of +5. They are averaging 25.3 touches inside the opposition’s box per game, showing their offensive strength.
The last time these two teams met, Chennaiyin won 1-0 in February 2024, breaking a seven-match winless streak against Kerala. A win in this match would mark their first back-to-back victories over Kerala Blasters since the 2019-20 season.
Kerala Blasters have been impressive at home, scoring in their last 15 matches. Another goal will match the longest goal-scoring streak at home in ISL history. However, they have conceded the most penalties this season (5), while Chennaiyin have conceded 4.
The two teams have faced each other 22 times in ISL, with Kerala winning six and Chennaiyin winning seven, while nine matches ended in a draw.
