A man was arrested for allegedly threatening Uttarakhand-based YouTuber Sourav Joshi and demanding Rs 2 crore as extortion, the police reported on Tuesday. The accused, Arun Kumar from Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, claimed to be connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. He sent Joshi a letter, threatening harm to him and his family if the money wasn’t paid within five days.
Given the mention of the Bishnoi gang, the case was treated with urgency, and a formal complaint was filed. During the investigation, the police examined CCTV footage and gathered intelligence, leading them to identify and arrest Arun Kumar. Further investigation revealed that Kumar had worked in Mohali but was fired due to poor performance. Seeking a quick way to make money, he targeted Joshi after finding his address on YouTube, attempting to intimidate him.
The police solved the case within 12 hours, showcasing their swift response. The arrest highlights the growing concern over such extortion attempts targeting public figures online.
