Pakistani security forces abduct another person amid ongoing disappearances

Balochistan

Pakistani security forces have abducted an individual named Fareed from the Panjgur district in Balochistan during a raid, taking him to an unknown location. His abduction adds to the growing number of enforced disappearances in the region. According to the Baloch Human Rights Commission, over 206 individuals, including political activists, students, and ordinary citizens, have been forcibly disappeared by security forces in the first half of 2024 alone.

Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have repeatedly raised concerns about the use of enforced disappearances in Balochistan. These organizations argue that such actions aim to silence opposition and suppress calls for greater autonomy or independence. Despite this, the Pakistani government has not been held accountable for these violations.

Families of the disappeared have staged numerous protests, but they have been met with violence and repression. Many believe that the government is complicit in these human rights abuses. The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) and other advocacy groups have brought attention to the thousands of Baloch people abducted by security forces.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee recently condemned the ongoing oppression, highlighting the severe challenges faced by Baloch people, including lack of access to education, healthcare, and basic needs, while being subjected to violence by security forces.
