Prominent Baloch activist Sammi Deen Baloch has raised alarms over the ongoing issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, focusing on the case of Diljan Baloch, a 28-year-old from Awaran who has been missing for over a week. Diljan was reportedly detained by security forces on November 12, 2024, and has not been seen since.
In a post on X, Sammi Baloch highlighted the lack of information about Diljan’s whereabouts, stating, “There is still no information regarding his whereabouts or condition.” Meanwhile, Diljan’s family is holding a sit-in protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Awaran, demanding answers and his immediate release. Despite their peaceful protest, the family faces harassment from security forces, and the local administration has even removed their protest tent, forcing them to continue under the open sky.
Sammi criticized both the mainstream media and the Pakistani authorities for ignoring the issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan. He argued that if the media questioned government officials about these disappearances, they would uncover the truth. Unfortunately, marginalized areas like Awaran often remain overlooked by mainstream media.
Enforced disappearances have been a persistent issue in Balochistan, with many activists, students, and citizens forcibly taken by security forces, leaving families in the dark and under pressure when seeking justice.
