A sub-collector and an engineer were arrested in Odisha on Tuesday for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets, the vigilance department reported. The accused are Narayan Chandra Nayak, sub-collector of Kamakhyanagar, and Subash Chandra Panda, deputy general manager (civil) at Odisha State Police Housing Welfare Corporation.
From Nayak, officials seized three multi-storeyed buildings, 14 plots, deposits of ₹34.57 lakh, ₹1.48 lakh in cash, and 366 gm of gold. Panda was found with assets including multi-storeyed buildings, a ₹66 lakh flat, five high-value plots, ₹1.84 crore in deposits, ₹13.47 lakh in cash, and 870 gm of gold.
Both officials failed to explain the source of their wealth. Separate corruption cases were registered against them, leading to their arrests, according to the vigilance department.
