Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential election, signaling hopes for stronger U.S.-China relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in a statement said, “On Thursday, in a message, Xi highlighted the importance of cooperative ties and peaceful coexistence, aiming for enhanced communication and mutual respect between the two nations.

“History shows both countries benefit from cooperation and suffer from confrontation,” Xi stated in a message released by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He expressed optimism for a U.S.-China relationship that aligns with international expectations and focuses on stable, healthy, and sustainable development.

Xi encouraged the two sides to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, address their differences constructively, and build a framework for peaceful coexistence. He underscored that a cooperative approach would benefit not only both countries but also the world.

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng also extended congratulations to JD Vance on his election as U.S. Vice President.

Trump’s win marks a historical comeback, making him the first U.S. president since 1892 to secure a non-consecutive second term. He defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris with 295 electoral votes to her 226, surpassing the 270 required to win the presidency. Trump’s return reflects a renewed Republican strength in key battleground states. He is set to be sworn in as the 47th U.S. president.
