Australian police have arrested and charged 19 people after dismantling a major international cannabis operation in New South Wales (NSW). The operation, initiated in December 2023, resulted in the seizure of cannabis worth more than 80 million Australian dollars (approximately 52.1 million USD), Police in the state of (NSW) announced on Thursday.
A significant raid took place in April 2024 at a property in Kemps Creek, about 40 kilometers west of Sydney. Authorities discovered the property was a purpose-built cannabis farm with 16 large greenhouses and specialized infrastructure designed for growing and refining cannabis. Over 5,400 cannabis plants were found on the site.
Following this, additional raids were carried out between May and November, leading to the seizure of more than 20,000 cannabis plants and over 586 kilograms of cannabis.
The 19 individuals, aged between 28 and 64, face charges related to drug cultivation, supply, and involvement in a criminal syndicate. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of NSW police to tackle organized crime and drug trafficking networks.
