In a significant step to bolster India’s defense capabilities and technological advancement, the Indian Army’s Corps of Army Air Defense has initiated the deployment of ‘Akashteer Command and Control Systems.’ The rollout began with the first batch of Control Centers being flagged off from BEL Ghaziabad on April 4, 2024.
Developed by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Akashteer Project is set to greatly improve the operational efficiency and integration of the Army’s air defense mechanisms. It aims to automate Air Defense Control and Reporting processes through digitalization.
Designated as the Year of Tech Absorption by the Indian Army, 2024 sees various initiatives to incorporate advanced technology into its inventory. The induction of Akashteer Control Centers marks a significant milestone in the Army’s journey towards transformation, catering to both present and future air defense needs.
Akashteer integrates radar and communication systems into a unified network, enhancing situational awareness and control. Its mobile Control Centers ensure operational capabilities even in challenging communication environments. This system’s complete automation of air defense operations will notably strengthen India’s air defense posture.
