Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar clarified that my statement at the Karadaga Kannada convention was misinterpreted. Minister Hebbalkar, who was a part of the 6th Kannada convention held in Karadaga village of Nippani taluk of Belagavi district on Sunday, made a controversial statement in the heat of speech. The statement that Belagavi belonged to Maharashtra before independence caused controversy.

She has clarified about this, I will clarify the words spoken in the Kannada conference held in Karadaga. As a proud Kannadiga, having a special admiration for Kannada, knowing that all the Kannadigas-Marathi speakers are holding a Kannada conference together with so much enthusiasm in the border area, she said that she participated in the conference with the intention celebration and instilling enthusiasm in them.

I request the friends of the media to understand the positivity of the words spoken there in order to inspire the Kannadigas. Interpreting it the other way around can backfire on the enthusiasm of border mirrors. Before Independence. Belagavi was also in Mumbai province.   Kannadigas-Marathi speakers have been living in harmony since time immemorial. He said that I have expressed the hope that this intimacy should continue. As the state of Maharashtra did not exist before Independence, there is no question of such interpretation. On this occasion, I increased their enthusiasm by promising that the state government would provide financial assistance to Karadaga Kannada Samavesh from next year and try to award the Kannada Rajyotsava award to the organisation there. She requested that we, all of you, together increase their enthusiasm and make this convention even grander in the years to come.
