Rajyotsava, Minister Santosh Lad Hoists National Flag

On the occasion of 68th Karnataka Rajyotsava, District in-charge Minister Santosh Lad hoisted he  National flag at RN Shetty Stadium. He then received a guard of honour from various contingents. Cultural programmes were held by various school children in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the movement for the unification of Karnataka is as important as the freedom struggle in the history of India. He said that the movement for the unification of Karnataka has started in this land and this fact is a symbol of pride for all of us.

RH Deshpande, Deputy Channabasappa, Adagunchi Shankaragowda Patil and other prominent leaders of the district participated in the Karnataka integration movement. The Kannada-speaking areas, which were divided into about 19 administrative parts, were reunited in 1956 after the British rule and merged with the then Mysore state. After this integration, Mysore state was renamed as Karnataka on November 1, 1973.  To mark the 50th anniversary of the festival, this year, under the slogan Karnataka Sambhrama-50,  Hesarayithu Karnataka Usiragali Kannada, awareness programmes on Karnataka’s history, art, literature and nadu language will be organized among the youth throughout the year on Kannada-Kannadiga-Karnataka.

It is a matter of pride to remember Pampa, Kumaravyasa, Dr. DR Bendre, Dr. VK Gokak, Dr. Girish Karnad. He recalled that behind the Karnataka Rajyotsava, which is being celebrated with pride today, is the struggle of the great personalities who worked hard for the unification of the state. All the eight taluks of the district have been declared as severely drought-hit due to lack of rainfall. 8.212 crore.   A proposal to provide relief has been submitted to the government. He said that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure that there is no shortage of drinking water and fodder for cattle even if there is a drought in the district. Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, HUDA Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar, SP Gopal Bakode and others were present.
