Chief Commissioner assesses rain damage in Yelahanka Zone

Must read

Amid continuous rains in the city, Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath toured various parts of the Yelahanka zone today to evaluate the impact and oversee relief measures. The downpour, which began yesterday, caused significant waterlogging in several areas, prompting immediate intervention.

One of the key stops was the Kendriya Vihar apartment complex, where residents faced severe flooding, with water reaching about three feet in some places. The Chief Commissioner instructed officials to act swiftly to alleviate the situation. To drain the stagnant water, a temporary channel was being constructed through private land next to the existing drain. Meanwhile, two fire-fighting vehicles were deployed to pump out the water.

Recognizing the urgent needs of the residents, a help desk was set up the previous evening to provide essential supplies, such as drinking water, milk, bread, and biscuits. Additionally, two tractors were arranged to assist residents in navigating the flooded complex. The Chief Commissioner also reviewed the flow of water from Yelahanka Lake, where the northern stream’s levels were directed towards the apartment complex. He emphasized the need to manage the water flow by regulating levels between the northern and southern streams of the lake.

The inspection extended to the Ramanashree California Layout, where officials had previously constructed a diversion channel to control the water flow. Giri Nath instructed them to promptly clear any standing water in the area using pumps.

With the rain showing no signs of letting up, the Chief Commissioner convened a virtual meeting, directing officials to inspect affected areas across the city’s zones and focus on finding permanent solutions. He stressed the importance of active zonal control rooms and responding swiftly to citizens’ complaints.

During the visit, Giri Nath was accompanied by Zonal Commissioner Kari Gowda, Joint Commissioner Mohammad Naeem Momin, Chief Engineer Ranganath, Executive Engineer Sudhakar Reddy, and other officials, all working together to address the rain-induced challenges.
