HUBLI

The Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI)   lacks basic amenities. A 65-year-old ITI is providing quality education, but now its building is in a bad condition.
The building has developed cracks, leading to leakages during the rainy season. Important machines are covered with plastic sheets. Till now, the stability check of the building has not been carried out, despite the direction of the elected representative.

The government has selected this centre for development, but it is still on paper.  According to sources, the Government ITIs in the state have been providing quality technical education to upskill students in various trades. The ITI  is second oldest in the state, established in 1957. It covers 2 acres including the administration block, workshops, training hall and classrooms.

Training is imparted in 21 trades spanning one year and two years. A total of 1,200 students are admitted   for this academic year. There are computer operators and programming assistant, mechanics of diesel engine, sheet metal work, welders, electronic mechanics, electric vehicle mechanics, manufacturing process controls and automation and other trades. Due to heavy rain, recently, the lab sheets and glass were broken. The walls need to be painted and toilets need to be built.  Principal   NV Kotur told, we had requested to release funds for the development of this ITI. We had prepared an estimate of Rs 12 crore for renovation and other works. The Skill Development and Livelihood Department has selected our institution for development at a cost of up to Rs 8 crore. Workshop renovation, painting and basic amenities are needed here. The renovation work will commence after the funds are released.
The old ITI building needs to be renovated. The authorities should pay attention and provide basic amenities, said students.
