Temba Bavuma has recovered from an elbow injury and will captain South Africa in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, starting on November 27 in Durban.

Head coach Shukri Conrad revealed the 14-member squad, which includes all-rounder Marco Jansen and fast bowler Gerald Coetzee. Both players make their return to the Test setup for the first time since the series against India last year.

Bavuma, cleared to play after passing a fitness test, is set to lead the team following his recovery from the left elbow injury that kept him out of the Bangladesh series. The squad also features experienced pacers Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson, and Wiaan Mulder. Spin duties will be handled by Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy.

The series begins at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban, with the second match scheduled for December 5 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. This series is crucial for South Africa, who remain in contention for a spot in the ICC World Test Championship Final.

Coach Conrad emphasized the importance of the series, saying, “We’ve selected a strong squad to remain competitive and keep our championship hopes alive. It’s fantastic to have Temba back as captain, and I’m pleased to see Marco and Gerald return after their hard work during conditioning.”
