Liverpool manager Arne Slot shared an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury following the team’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday night, saying the extent of the injury remains unclear. Alexander-Arnold, who exited the game at Anfield after 25 minutes, will undergo further assessment by Liverpool’s medical staff.
‘It’s difficult to say how serious it is,’ Slot noted in his post-match press conference. ‘When a player asks to come off in the first half, it’s usually not a good sign. He didn’t ask because he was tired; he felt something. We’ll wait and see, but I’d be surprised if he plays for England this week.
During the match, Darwin Nunez opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 20th minute, and Mohamed Salah added a second with a skillful finish in the 84th minute. This win sent Liverpool into the international break five points clear at the top of the Premier League, boasting nine wins in 11 games.
Reflecting on the season so far, Slot emphasized Liverpool’s need to maintain top-level performances across all competitions. ‘Every week is a big week with the number of games we play,’ Slot said. ‘We’re competing for the league, the Champions League, and domestic cups. To stay ahead, we need to remain on top of our game because clubs like Arsenal, City, and Chelsea are also in strong form.’
With Liverpool in a strong position, Slot expressed determination to keep the momentum, acknowledging the challenges ahead in a season full of high-stakes matches.
