A man who unexpectedly revived on a funeral pyre in Jaipur on Thursday passed away on Friday during treatment at a hospital. The incident has sparked an investigation, and the District Collector has suspended three doctors involved in declaring him dead.
The 25-year-old, Rohitash, who was deaf and mute, was brought to a government hospital in Jhunjhunu on Thursday afternoon after falling ill. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead around 2 PM. His body was placed in the mortuary’s deep freezer for two hours before being taken to the cremation ground.
While his last rites were being performed at around 5 PM, just before the pyre was lit, Rohitash showed signs of life, startling those present. He was rushed to the district hospital, where his condition was initially stable. However, he tragically passed away on Friday morning.
Rohitash, an orphan, had been living at a shelter home in Jhunjhunu before the incident occurred. Following the dramatic event, authorities suspended four officials for negligence and formed a committee to investigate. One key point of the probe is whether a postmortem was conducted, as his medical records show a postmortem report, which could have prevented the confusion. The investigation is ongoing.
