Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced plans to introduce SOPs to regulate the use of sirens, tinted glasses, and flickering lights, addressing public concerns over ‘VIP culture.’ Speaking on Friday, Sangma acknowledged citizen complaints and emphasized the need to balance security and public convenience.
He highlighted that while safety measures are essential, they should not be misused or create an attitude of privilege. To address this, the police department has been tasked with drafting clear guidelines on who is permitted to use these features.
Last week, Sangma held discussions with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, the Chief Secretary, and the DGP to ensure the SOP is comprehensive and strictly enforced. The government aims to minimize inconvenience while maintaining necessary security protocols.
