Hockey India on Monday has announced an 18-member restructured squad for the upcoming Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024. The tournament will take place from November 11 to 20 at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar. India enters as the defending champion, after securing the title in Ranchi last year.
Led by Salima Tete, with Navneet Kaur as vice-captain, the team aims to retain their crown in a competitive field featuring China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand. The squad boasts a mix of experience and young talent, including veterans Savita and Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, alongside rising stars like Beauty Dungdung.
Salima Tete expressed her excitement about leading the team, saying, “We’ve trained rigorously and are ready to defend our title.” Vice-captain Navneet Kaur added, “Playing in front of our home crowd will be a huge boost as we face tough competition.”
India’s first match in the tournament will be against Malaysia on November 11.
