Legal Advisor to the Chief Minister Ponnanna, has accused the BJP and JDS of spreading falsehoods regarding   Waqf Board’s alleged attempts to acquire farmers’ land ahead of the upcoming by-elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Vidhana Soudha, Ponnanna responded to the recent notices issued by the Waqf Board to farmers in Vijayapura. He stated that the BJP and JDS leaders are making politically motivated statements out of fear of losing in the by-elections in three constituencies. He accused the parties of trying to divide society and exploit communal sentiments during elections.

Claims that the Waqf Board is seizing farmers’ land are baseless. The BJP and JDS must stop spreading lies. They should face the public directly and address the government’s failures instead of resorting to such falsehoods, he asserted.

Ponnanna challenged anyone making claims about the 15,000 acres of land, demanding evidence to back their statements. He emphasized that even if Ministers make such claims, they must be substantiated with documentation. He confirmed that the issue will be discussed in the current Cabinet meeting, and clarity will be provided based on records brought in by the Deputy Commissioner and revenue officials.
