The Congress party will convene its Working Committee (CWC) meeting on November 29 to discuss the party’s disappointing performance in the Maharashtra and Haryana elections. The meeting will primarily focus on the party’s setbacks in both states and the broader political context.

In Maharashtra, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance faced a significant loss. The Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, secured just 20 seats, while Congress won 16, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) captured 10 seats. In contrast, the BJP emerged as the dominant force, winning 132 seats, with its allies, including the Shiv Sena faction of Eknath Shinde and the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar, securing 57 and 41 seats, respectively. Despite contesting the majority of seats within the MVA, Congress could only secure 16 seats.

In Haryana, the BJP secured its third consecutive term, winning 48 out of 90 seats, while Congress won 37 seats.

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee criticized Congress for its poor performance, stating that the party failed to meet expectations in both states. He also called for stronger leadership within the INDIA alliance, stressing that a unified leader is crucial to effectively challenge the BJP. Banerjee pointed out that Congress’s leadership experiments have not worked, urging the alliance to strengthen its approach.
