Maya, a dog from the District Police Dog Squad, has secured the first position in the state for her outstanding work in explosives detection. Rosie, another dog from the City Police Squad, won second place in the state for her efforts in investigating criminal cases.
The state-level Police Duty Meet was held in Bengaluru, with participation from police officials and dog squads from across Karnataka. Maya excelled in the explosives detection category at the state level, while Rosie demonstrated exceptional performance in criminal investigations, earning her the second rank.
Maya is handled by Malkari Yamgar and Manjunath Kasavannavar, while Rosie is managed by Rudrayya Mavinakattimath and Santosh Patil. Each police dog is assigned two handlers and responds exclusively to their commands. Both Maya and Rosie participated in the Police Duty Meet alongside their handlers.
The North Division secured a total of 8 medals at the state-level meet, including 2 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze. The event witnessed participation from 328 officers and 57 dogs from districts such as Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, and across Karnataka.
Maya and Rosie’s remarkable achievements are the result of meticulous supervision. Maya’s training is overseen by District Superintendent of Police Dr Bhimashankar Guled, while Rosie is monitored under the guidance of Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang.
