India, Israel to set up new Water Technology Center at IIT Madras

India and Israel have signed an agreement to set up a Center of Water Technology at IIT Madras in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This partnership involves the Embassy of Israel, IIT Madras, and the AMRUT mission of India’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The new center aims to be a leading hub for innovation and research in water management, with a focus on sustainable urban water solutions.

Israel, known for its expertise in Integrated Water Resources Management, will bring its advanced technologies and experience to this initiative. As a starting point, a workshop on 24/7 Water Supply in Urban Areas was held at IIT Madras from August 5 to 8, 2024.

Israeli Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, emphasized that this collaboration underscores the commitment of both nations to tackling water scarcity and improving management. He expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting its potential to create innovative solutions that benefit millions in India.

The Center of Water Technology will facilitate the exchange of technology and scientific knowledge between the two countries. It will focus on various aspects of water management, including urban supply, water recycling, and smart data management. Both governments plan to identify and work on projects related to integrated water resources and advanced technological solutions to enhance water sustainability.
