Tension escalated in Davanagere city after stone pelting occurred during the Ganesh Visarjan procession. In response, police increased security measures and deployed additional forces in sensitive areas. Two policemen were injured on Beturu Road late Thursday night.

The police are actively searching for suspects using CCTV footage, and shops in sensitive areas have been asked to close as a precaution. Complaints have been filed by leaders from both Hindu and Muslim communities regarding provocative statements that may have contributed to the unrest.

A challenge issued by a Muslim leader prompted the Hindu community to proceed through Beturu Road, where the stone pelting incident took place amid raised religious slogans. The Superintendent of Police confirmed that the situation is now under control and that actions will be taken against those responsible.

Eighteen individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, with ten from one community and eight from another. They have been sentenced to 14 days of judicial custody. The arrests were made under tight police security and involved producing the accused before Judge Prashant.

ADGP Law and Order R Hitendra stated that investigations are ongoing, including checks of CCTV and mobile footage. He confirmed that a case has been registered against a leader for making a provocative speech. While there are no reports of injuries to the public, one individual has complained of assault, leading to further investigations.

The area around Aralimara Circle is currently peaceful, and police have suggested that Ganesha idols be immersed in Davanagere city. Arrangements are being made for the Hindu Mahaganapati immersion scheduled for October 5.
