The bye-election for the MLC seat, vacated after Kota Srinivas Poojary was elected as an MP, will take place on October 21. Approximately 6,037 members from 392 local bodies in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will participate in the voting process, as confirmed by the election officer.

Nominations can be filed from September 26 to October 3, with verification set for October 4. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations is October 7. Voting will occur from 8 am to 4 pm on October 21, and the counting of votes will happen on October 24.

The model code of conduct was enforced on September 19, the day the election was announced, and will remain active until October 28. During this time, government development programs cannot be announced, and public events involving officials are prohibited. The Election Commission will oversee political activities, applying the same regulations as for MP and MLA elections.

No election-related check posts will be established, but flying squads and video surveillance teams will be deployed. Political party bunting and hoardings will be removed immediately. Eligible voters include members of gram panchayats, city corporations, and various municipalities.
