On Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged members of the lower House of Parliament to adhere to the highest traditions of debate and dialogue, encouraging them to express their dissent in a constructive way. Speaking at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, Birla reflected on the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption, recalling the legacy of quality debates in the Constituent Assembly. In light of the Samvidhan Diwas celebrations, he emphasized the importance of meaningful discussions among members of all political parties and called for avoiding disruptions in the House under the guise of protest.
Earlier in the day, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned due to an impasse over opposition demands. The two Houses will reconvene on Wednesday.
PM Modi, during his address at the start of the session, criticized opposition members for trying to disrupt Parliament for their own political gains. He urged Parliament to reflect the people’s commitment to democracy, the Constitution, and the value of constructive debate. Modi emphasized that future generations would draw inspiration from the discussions in the House and expressed hope for a productive session that would enhance the prestige of India’s Constitution and strengthen the nation’s global stature.
