City Enhances Traffic Surveillance With 750 New AI-Enabled Cameras

Must read

Bengaluru authorities have announced the installation of 750 AI-enabled smart cameras to bolster the city’s traffic management infrastructure. These cameras will complement the existing network of 7,500 CCTV cameras spread across 3,000 crucial locations. They are strategically placed to enhance surveillance at city outskirts and key junctions, alongside newly installed traffic signals.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Raman Gupta, the initiative aims to strengthen traffic management capabilities and ensure continuous monitoring for incidents such as road rage, hit-and-run cases, and instances of harassment. Gupta highlighted the integration of these cameras with the command center, emphasizing their dual role in maintaining public order and managing traffic flow effectively.

Further enhancements under the city’s safe city project include the installation of 150 watch towers and eight high-definition face-recognition cameras at pivotal transit points like bus stands, railway stations, airports, and the Chinnaswamy stadium. Scheduled for completion by October, these measures are designed to enhance surveillance capabilities, identify potential troublemakers, and swiftly respond to security threats.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-South) Shiva Prakash Devaraju underscored the synchronization of closely spaced traffic signals to minimize stops and alleviate congestion along major arteries such as Kanakapura Road, Hosur Road, Bannerghatta Road, and Sarjapur Road. He also echoed ongoing enforcement drives targeting violations not covered by AI cameras, such as driving in no-entry zones or parking on footpaths, highlighting the importance of physical enforcement alongside technological measures.
