On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs dismissed the lawsuit filed by pro-Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun as unwarranted and unsubstantiated. Pannun had sued the Indian government in the US, alleging an ‘assassination’ attempt against him.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the lawsuit does not alter India’s stance on the issue. As we’ve said before, these claims are baseless. The filing of this case doesn’t change our position. I would point out the background of the person behind this case, Misri said at a press briefing before PM Modi’s US visit.

Pannun, an India-designated terrorist with American and Canadian citizenship, represents an unlawful organization, as per the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act of 1967. This group is known for its anti-national activities aimed at disrupting India’s sovereignty.

In November, the US Justice Department unsealed an indictment against an Indian national for allegedly plotting to assassinate a Sikh separatist leader in New York. The indictment, still in the accusation stage, does not yet confirm guilt. The US authorities had foiled the plot, and India responded by forming a high-level inquiry committee to address security concerns.
