Paris

Third-seeded Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the French Open semifinals for the second straight year with a 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-4 victory over ninth seed and 2021 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 21-year-old Spaniard maintained his perfect record against Tsitsipas, improving to 6-0 in their head-to-head matchups.

Alcaraz broke Tsitsipas’ serve early and never trailed in the first two sets. He conceded just four points on his serve in the first set, quickly establishing a 6-3, 4-1 lead within an hour. Although Tsitsipas briefly rallied to tie the second set, Alcaraz responded with a strong finish, securing the set with a combination of Tsitsipas errors and his own winners.

In the third set, Tsitsipas lost a 30-0 lead in the seventh game due to errors and double faults. Alcaraz nearly faltered in the final game but recovered with three successful returns and a forehand winner, clinching his spot in the semifinals against Jannik Sinner.

Reflecting on his performance, Alcaraz said, I think it was a really good match. I played great. I controlled my emotions and was really calm when I needed to be. I’m very happy with how I played and to reach the semifinals here again.

Alcaraz’s semifinal opponent, Sinner, has an even head-to-head record with him at 4-4. Alcaraz won their latest encounter at this year’s Indian Wells, but Sinner has triumphed in their previous Grand Slam meetings at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2022.
