N. Shivashankar, the Collector, highlighted the importance of crop insurance registration for farmers during a meeting at the District Collector’s Court Hall in Birasandra village on Tuesday. He urged agriculture and horticulture officials to collaborate with crop insurance organizations to educate farmers at the local level and facilitate their registration. Highlighting the Karnataka Farmer Protection Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana, he directed officials to conduct weekly agricultural workshops to disseminate information on farming practices, crop protection, and the benefits of insurance cover.

The scheme aims to provide financial security to farmers against crop loss due to natural calamities such as drought, floods, and hailstorms. In Bengaluru Rural District, registration deadlines vary by crop type, with procedures accessible at village service centers or banks. Horticulture crops like mangoes and grapes are also covered under the redesigned Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme, which considers meteorological factors to determine losses.
