Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called for greater collaboration between India and the UK on wednesday in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), telemedicine, climate modeling, and agricultural technology to benefit millions in both nations.
Speaking at a UK India Business Council (UKIBC) event in the capital, Goyal emphasized the potential of bilateral partnerships to drive economic growth and address global challenges.
“AI and virtual reality can revolutionize education and training. A telemedicine partnership could reduce healthcare costs in the UK and improve access to quality care in remote parts of India,” Goyal said. He also highlighted the role of advanced climate modeling in managing natural disasters and precision farming tools in boosting agricultural productivity.
At the event, the UKIBC launched the UK-India Technology Futures Report, showcasing transformative India-UK technology collaborations. These partnerships are not only creating jobs and economic growth but also addressing critical global issues such as climate change, food security, and financial inclusion.
Richard McCallum, COO of UKIBC, stated, “Technology partnerships between India and the UK underpin shared prosperity and contribute to global good.”
The recent signing of the Technology Security Initiative (TSI) and the resumption of free trade agreement (FTA) talks have further strengthened ties between the two nations.
The report also highlighted the UK’s alignment with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047 (Viksit Bharat). It urged deeper collaboration in areas like energy transition, advanced technology, and research and development to tackle pressing global challenges.
