Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao has issued directives to health authorities to regulate dengue testing rates in private hospitals following a meeting on Tuesday at Vidhan Soudha. In attendance were officials from BBMP, rural development, and the health department, where discussions centered on enhancing dengue control measures.

Minister Gundurao announced plans to release a circular to standardize testing costs for dengue cases in private healthcare facilities. Emphasizing the urgency, he highlighted a 42% increase in dengue testing compared to the previous year and stressed the importance of early detection in preventing fatalities.

We’ve identified 6187 dengue-positive cases and regretfully, 6 deaths from January to June, stated Gundurao, underlining a low death rate of 0.09%. He urged heightened vigilance across Bangalore, Chikkamagaluru, Mysore, Haveri, Chitradurga, Shimoga, and Dakshina Kannada districts, where dengue cases are concentrated.

The Minister further outlined proactive measures, including a community outreach initiative where BBMP officials and Asha workers will visit every household in Bangalore to raise awareness about dengue and mosquito prevention. In rural areas, Medical Officers of Primary Health Centers will educate school children, supported by trained science teachers.

To enforce these efforts, a weekly dengue control campaign has been scheduled every Friday, with BBMP and health department officials actively participating in field operations. Monitoring and eradication of mosquito larvae remains a top priority, Gundurao affirmed, directing the BBMP Commissioner to collaborate with construction organizations to prevent water accumulation conducive to mosquito breeding.
