Chennai

Chennaiyin FC announced on Wednesday the signing of experienced Brazilian defender Elson Jose Dias Junior, known as Elsinho, on a two-year deal extending until 2026. This makes Elsinho the second addition to the 2024-25 season for the Marina Machans, following the acquisition of midfielder Jitendra Singh earlier this week.

Elsinho, 33, brings a wealth of experience and joins Ryan Edwards to bolster Chennaiyin’s defense. Head coach Owen Coyle praised Elsinho, stating, Elsinho is a versatile, strong, and technical player who can operate both as a central midfielder and center back. He offers us options in defense and poses a goal threat in the opposition box. The Brazilian will be a valuable addition to our foreign contingent.

Elsinho’s versatility allows him to contribute both defensively and in midfield, providing tactical flexibility for the club. Last season, he was with Jamshedpur FC, where he played 25 matches. Expressing his excitement, Elsinho said, The coach’s interest in my work was a major factor in my decision to join Chennaiyin. I’m happy to be part of a championship that garners attention.

Elsinho began his professional career in 2014 with Clube Esportivo Naviraiense. Over his career, he has played 214 matches, scoring 15 goals and providing two assists. He spent a significant part of his career at Mexican club FC Juarez, making 136 appearances from 2017 to 2019.
