Poor Maintenance Plagues Infantry Road Despite Development Efforts By BSCL

Must read

Despite substantial investments by Bengaluru Smart City Limited (BSCL) in developing roads within the Central Business District (CBD) area, the quality of infrastructure, particularly footpaths, on Infantry Road leaves much to be desired.

While BSCL undertook the development of Infantry Road and other CBD roads, maintenance responsibilities were handed over to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). However, it appears that BBMP authorities have yet to prioritize the upkeep of these roads, evident from the deteriorating condition of footpaths and neglected electrical equipment.

An eyesore near the Income Tax Office, a damaged name board on Infantry Road remains unattended, posing a hazard to pedestrians and motorists. Additionally, cracked concrete around footpath manholes near the Income Tax Office compounds the risk, potentially leading to accidents or inconvenience for pedestrians.

Pedestrians like Vinod S express dissatisfaction with the state of affairs, highlighting missing or damaged electrical junction boxes that not only mar the aesthetics but also pose safety risks. The lack of maintenance is further underscored by missing bulbs and damaged electric poles along the footpath, along with neglected greenery that reflects BBMP’s apathy.

BBMP executive engineer from the Shivajinagar Sub-Division has pledged to investigate the matter. However, it remains to be seen whether tangible action will be taken to address the pressing maintenance issues plaguing Infantry Road and other CBD thoroughfares, underscoring the need for proactive upkeep efforts to ensure the safety and aesthetics of Bengaluru’s urban landscape.
