Must read

The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) have consented to provide Cauvery river water to 21 IT Parks located in and around the Mahadevapura area. The water will be earmarked for drinking purposes, addressing the growing demand from companies in the region. However, the BWSSB has stipulated certain conditions, including the payment of a specified fee for the supply of Cauvery water.

Representatives from various companies in the area had appealed to the BWSSB during a previous meeting, highlighting the reliance on borewells to meet their water requirements. In response, BWSSB chairman Ram Prasath Manohar announced the board’s readiness to cater to the companies’ water needs by supplying Cauvery water.

BWSSB has taken steps to alleviate the water scarcity faced by IT companies. With several companies seeking Cauvery water, we are prepared to initiate water supply under the fourth stage of the scheme, stated Manohar, as reported by the media. The Cauvery water supply initiative, known as Stage 4, Phase 2, commenced in 2012, providing 500 million litres per day (MLD) to meet the city’s water demands. Stage 5 of the project is currently underway and is slated for completion this year.

However, Manohar clarified that the BWSSB would initially be able to supply 5 MLD of water under Stage 4, whereas the collective demand from the 21 IT Parks stands at 12 MLD. To bridge this gap. ]

He urged companies to integrate treated water for at least 50 percent of their water requirements, advocating for the use of grey water, which encompasses all non-toilet wastewater.
