Final week to install HSRP before Rs 500 fine

Must read

With less than a week remaining before the September 15 deadline, vehicle owners must fit high-security registration plates (HSRP) on vehicles registered before 2019 or face a Rs 500 fine starting next week. The deadline for HSRP installation, set by both the government and the high court, has been extended multiple times but has seen limited compliance.

Mallikarjun, Additional Transport Commissioner, announced that of the 2 crore vehicles in the state older than 2019, only 51 lakh have had the HSRP fitted. This leaves 1.49 crore vehicles yet to comply. Starting September 16, the Transport Department will launch a special drive across all districts to enforce the installation, with fines of Rs 500 for first-time offenders and Rs 1,000 for repeat offenders.

HSRP aims to standardize number plates nationwide and enhance security by aiding in tracking criminal activities. Despite the looming deadline, many are still attempting to book appointments online at the last minute. Following the deadline, traffic police will also impose fines for non-compliance.
