The Madhya Pradesh Police have filed charges against two individuals for running over stray cattle in separate incidents. Disturbing footage that recently went viral shows a calf sitting on the road with other cows in Singrauli district. A car approached, and despite the driver initially slowing down and honking, the vehicle accelerated and ran over the calf, killing it instantly.

The Waidhan police station received a complaint from local resident Nitin Pandey and an NGO on September 6. An FIR has been filed for this incident under the Madhya Pradesh Govansh Vadh Pratishedh Adhiniyam (MPGVPA) of 2004. On the same day, another FIR was registered for a similar case where a driver ran over a cow. The accused in both cases are unidentified and have been charged under sections 4 and 9 of the MPGVPA, which penalize the killing of cows with severe fines and imprisonment.

Stray cattle on roads continue to cause accidents across Madhya Pradesh, despite multiple government attempts to address the issue. Recently, the state government appointed a committee to tackle the problem, but no effective solution has been implemented yet.
