The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised a fervent demand for the allocation of vacant land from the Maharaja Yaduvir Wodeyar Maidan to facilitate the widening of roads surrounding the Bengaluru Palace Ground.

In a press conference held at the party’s city office on Friday, Jagdish V. Sadam, the state media coordinator of AAP and candidate for the Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency, mentioned the need for philanthropic action by the Maharajas. He urged them to contribute to road expansion efforts without seeking any rewards, solely for the public’s benefit.

Highlighting the historical philanthropy of Srikanthadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, Maharaj pointed out the contrast with current practices. He criticized the Maharajas for seeking compensation from the public, warning that failure to address the issue by May 17 could result in contempt of court proceedings against the state government.

He echoed the importance of addressing public grievances regarding traffic congestion through proactive measures, urging the Maharajas to act sensibly in the interest of citizens.

Darshan Jain, the state social media in-charge of AAP, echoed Maharaj’s sentiments, questioning the fairness of the government’s compensation policies. He criticized the proposed allocation of ₹1,400 crore in Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) to the Maharaja for a mere 15.39 acres of land, contrasting it with the plight of farmers affected by land acquisition for various projects.

He urged the state government to reconsider its decision and prioritize the welfare of citizens over lavish compensation to the royal family.
