Tushar Giri Nath, the District Election Officer and BBMP Chief Commissioner, has issued a passionate appeal to all students, echoing the importance of voting collectively to uphold democracy in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing the Voting Awareness Walking Jatha program, which commenced from Lalbagh’s 1st main gate on Friday, Nath underscored the significance of young voters’ participation in shaping the democratic process. He urged first-time voters to exercise their franchise diligently, mentioning their pivotal role in strengthening democracy.

Highlighting the voter turnout of 54 percent in the previous Bengaluru election, Nath stressed the need to elevate this percentage. To achieve this, various awareness initiatives are underway to educate and mobilize voters effectively.

Over 1000 students from 17 different colleges, including Maharani College, Vivekananda Degree College, Vijaya College, Government Arts College, and SLN Arts and Commerce College, participated in the jatha.

During the 4 km foot procession, students chanted slogans such as ‘Vote for democracy,’ ‘My vote is good for the country,’ ‘Pride of the country on election day,’ and ‘Vote on 26th,’ aiming to inspire fellow citizens to fulfill their civic duty.

In addition to Nath, the event witnessed the participation of district sweep committee president Kantaraju, district sweep nodal officer Pratibha, along with other officials and students, collectively advocating for increased voter participation and fostering a culture of electoral responsibility.
