Must read

A full-scale mock exercise was held on Wednesday at Nelamangala Railway Station by the Bengaluru Division in partnership with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the District Disaster Management Office, Bengaluru Rural District. The aim was to test the effectiveness of the Disaster Management Plan, which includes various safety protocols for emergencies.

To simulate an accident scenario, three old coaches were positioned in Nelamangala Yard. A mock accident message was communicated, reporting the derailment of two coaches and a capsized coach that had caught fire. This triggered the need for a Self-Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van (SPARMV) and an Accident Relief Train (ART). A siren was sounded to alert the rescue teams.

Upon receiving the message, the Railway Breakdown Team and NDRF arrived promptly and set up medical and equipment tents at the site. They commenced rescue operations using advanced tools, including cutting open window bars and the coach roof to extract injured passengers. Medical teams demonstrated first aid procedures and the transfer of the injured to nearby hospitals.

The NDRF team, led by Deputy Commandant Shri Akhilesh Kumar Chaubey, included 30 rescuers and personnel from fire services, ambulance services, and various railway departments. The exercise underscored the significance of preparedness in ensuring passenger safety during emergencies.

Supervised by Shri Parikshit Mohanpuria, Additional Divisional Railway Manager/Operations, the exercise aimed to enhance system readiness for potential train accidents and improve coordination among various agencies during crises.
