Final Stages For City’s Namma Metro Pink Line Tunneling

Must read

The much-anticipated 13-kilometre tunnel, linking Bannerghatta Road to Nagawara, is nearing completion and is slated for an August inauguration, marking a significant milestone for Bengaluru’s transportation infrastructure.

As part of the expansive Namma Metro Pink Line project, covering a total distance of 21.26 kilometres, the tunnel features a 13.76-kilometre underground stretch and a 7.5-kilometre elevated section, incorporating 18 stations, including 12 underground ones.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has meticulously segmented the tunneling endeavour into three phases, with the initial two phases already accomplished. Presently, the third phase stands at an impressive 94 percent completion rate.

According to a BMRCL official, the ongoing third phase involves the excavation of a 935-meter tunnel section between KG Halli and Nagawara, employing state-of-the-art Tunnel Boring Machines christened Tunga and Bhadra. These machines commenced operations in February and April, respectively, and are steadily progressing towards their designated targets, with anticipated completion dates set for 31 July and 31 August.

Upon the culmination of these pivotal tunneling phases, the subsequent focus will shift towards track laying, civil works, and the installation of crucial infrastructure components essential for the seamless operation of the Namma Metro Pink Line.

BMRCL is steadfast in its commitment to wrapping up all civil and track-laying activities associated with the Pink Line by the latter half of 2024, paving the way for traction, signaling, and system installations.
