MV Govindan, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), reiterated the party’s position on the Panoor blast, asserting that the CPI-M had no involvement in it. The blast near Panoor in Kannur district, Kerala, resulted in one fatality and three injuries.

Dismissing BJP’s claims, Govindan emphasized that the party does not partake in activities involving explosives and urged for a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Addressing concerns regarding the alleged involvement of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists, Govindan stated that it is DYFI’s responsibility to address whether their members were implicated.

Insisting on clarity, Govindan affirmed that CPI-M has no association with the explosion and called for a thorough inquiry. He labeled the explosion at the League center as an attempt to stir tension.

Meanwhile, N Haridas, President of BJP’s Kannur district unit, accused the top CPI (M) leadership of complicity in the explosion. He claimed that the bombs were manufactured in the district under CPI (M)’s knowledge to disrupt the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Haridas alleged that those arrested in connection with the incident were active CPI (M) workers.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President and UDF candidate in Kannur Lok Sabha constituency, K Sudhakaran, also demanded a rigorous investigation into the incident, asserting that there is a political motive behind the bomb-making. Sudhakaran vowed to lodge a complaint with the Election Commission regarding the blast.
