Union Minister and Amethi MP Smriti Irani accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of seeking support from the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) to contest the Lok Sabha election from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency. Speaking at a Yadav Sammelan at her residence in Gauriganj, Irani alleged, Rahul Gandhi aligned with the terrorist organization PFI, which targeted Hindus for violence, to contest the elections in Wayanad. Irani, seeking re-election from Amethi, where she defeated Rahul Gandhi in 2019, also highlighted the absence of flags in a recent rally of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Congress, in which Gandhi participated.
She claimed Gandhi made a pact with the IUML to forgo party flags, questioning their integrity. Irani criticized Gandhi for choosing to contest from Wayanad, implying disloyalty to his previous constituency. She questioned, are the people he represented for 15 years now deemed disloyal?
Asserting the BJP’s governance at the central and state levels, she questioned Gandhi’s influence. Irani also criticized West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over an incident in Sandeshkhali, contrasting BJP’s achievements in Amethi to Congress’s alleged neglect. She accused Congress of insulting those who bring them to power, alleging a history of neglect and poverty perpetuated by the Gandhi family’s rule.
