Cuddalore District forest department officials reported the arrest of two roadside fortune tellers on Wednesday. The fortune tellers, along with their parrot, predicted the victory of a candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Identified as Selvaraj and Srinivasan, the duo was detained in Panrutti for keeping a caged parrot, which is illegal under the Wildlife Protection Act (1972).

The incident occurred during a campaign event in Thennampakkam, where PMK candidate Thangar Bachan requested a prediction from Selvaraj, who used one of their parrots. A video of the prediction, shared by PMK functionaries, quickly spread on social media.

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss criticized the arrests, linking them to the government’s inability to accept the parrot’s prediction favoring Bachan’s victory. The PMK, aligned with the BJP for the elections in Tamil Nadu, will contest on 10 seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the DMK-led alliance dominated Tamil Nadu, securing 38 out of 39 seats. This year, Tamil Nadu’s election is scheduled for April 19, marking the first phase of polling.
